Norman Wirzba

Norman Wirzba is Professor of Theology, Ecology, and Agrarian Studies at Duke Divinity School. He studied history at the University of Lethbridge, theology at Yale Divinity School, and philosophy at Loyola University, Chicago. His writing and teaching focuses on understanding and promoting practices that equip both rural and urban church communities to be more faithful and responsible members of creation. Dr. Wirzba was raised on a farm in Southern Alberta, which shaped his passion for being outdoors and growing food. Married to Gretchen Ziegenhals, and also the father of four children, he enjoys baking, cooking, woodworking, and playing the guitar. He also says of himself, “I once was a good athlete!”
